Tiger Eye

$255.00

To create this freeform ring, I cut a strip of sterling silver to size; I then fuse wire to that strip in the shape the ring will be. (Fusing means to heat the silver to a very high temperature until it “melts” together, actually becoming one piece of metal, instead of soldering it.) I create the granulation (small silver balls) by again taking small pieces of silver and heating them to a high temperature until they melt and form a ball. I then fuse the granulation to the ring in a freeform pattern.

Once satisfied with the pattern and design of the granulation, I form the silver strip into a ring by hammering it around a mandrel (a steel tube). Making sure the edges are nice and square, I solder it together.

After creating a bezel for the Tigers Eye stone, I solder that onto the ring, adding any silver balls or embellishments. And the final decorate embellishment are coils of gold wire soldered to either side of the stone.

After thorough cleaning and polishing, the Tigers Eye is set into the bezel, which is snugged around it to secure. And the ring is done!
